Why Your Usual Sneaker Size Is the Right Choice

This guide answers the questions “Can I just order my usual size?” and “Won’t the built-in height make them tight inside?” It explains how LEVANO sizing works, how to choose if you have wide feet or a high instep, what to check when trying them on indoors, and the conditions for a size exchange and how to use it.

5cm Elevator Sneakers No.01
LEVANO shoes can be chosen in the same size as the sneakers you usually wear.

When buying elevator shoes for the first time, the most common worry is size.

When you hear that the height is built into the inside of the shoe, many people wonder whether the insole will make it cramped, or whether they should go up one size.

The short answer: for LEVANO shoes, the same size as the sneakers you usually wear is the guide. This article explains why, how to choose if you have wide feet or a high instep, what to check indoors once your order arrives, and how to exchange the size if it does not fit.

POINT 01

The Short Answer: Your Usual Sneaker Size Is the Guide

For LEVANO shoes, we recommend the same size as the sneakers you usually wear. Compared with major brands such as Nike, New Balance and Adidas, there is no significant difference in fit. Sizes run in 0.5cm steps, so you can simply choose your usual size.

If you are unsure, use the following guide.

Quick Sizing Reference

Foot type Recommended choice
Standard width and instep height Same size as your usual sneakers
Wide feet or a high instep One size up
Torn between 2 sizes The larger one (the size that leaves about 1cm of room at the toes)
Planning to wear dress shoes or loafers for long hours Start with the same size; go one size up if the instep feels tight

POINT 02

Why the Same Size Works

The height of elevator shoes comes from an insole structure built into the inside of the shoe. LEVANO shoes are designed with this structure included, so the labelled size can be chosen on the same basis as your usual sneakers.

Unlike a shoe with an insole added afterwards, the inside of the shoe does not become narrower by the amount of the height. As a rule, there is no need to go up a size.

If anything, choosing a size that is too large lets your foot slide forward with every step, and the heel lifts, which tires you out faster. Elevator shoes are more stable and easier to walk in when the foot sits firmly in place.

POINT 03

How to Choose if You Have Wide Feet or a High Instep

Wide feet

Because you are more likely to feel pressure across the width, one size up is more comfortable. Dress shoe and loafer types in particular do not stretch much sideways, so we recommend leaving some room.

High instep

If the shoe presses on your instep, go one size up. Sneaker types can be adjusted with the laces, so the same size is often manageable.

If you usually adjust by half sizes

LEVANO sizes run in 0.5cm steps. If there is a brand where you usually go up half a size, apply the same thinking here.

POINT 04

Size Ranges and Notes by Shoe Type

Size Ranges by Type

Type Size range Notes
Sneakers (no01 to no13, etc.) 25.0–28.0cm (no05 is 23.0–28.0cm) Instep pressure can be adjusted with the laces. Your usual sneaker size is fine
Dress shoes and loafers (no20, no21, etc.) 24.0–27.5cm One size up for a high instep or wide feet. The leather softens with wear
Japan-made, cowhide leather (no28 to no31) 23.5–27.0cm (no28 and no29: 24.0–26.5cm, no30: 23.5–26.5cm, no31: 24.0–27.0cm) Cowhide leather conforms to the foot the more you wear it. Start with the same size
Sandals (no15, no16, no30) no15: 24.0–28.0cm / no16: 24.0–28.0cm / no30: 23.5–26.5cm Check that your toes do not extend past the front and that your heel sits within the footbed

Size ranges vary by model. Before purchasing, check the Product Details section on each product page.

The 5cm models are grouped in the 5cm Elevator Shoes collection, and the Japan-made cowhide leather models (no28 to no31, 23.5–27.0cm) in Japan-Made Elevator Shoes. If you are looking for a smaller size, the 5cm Heel-Up Elevator Sneakers No.05, available from 23.0cm, and the +2 inches Cowhide Leather Casual Sandals No.30, available from 23.5cm, are candidates.

POINT 05

5 Things to Check Indoors Once Your Order Arrives

Size exchanges and returns are accepted only if the shoes are unused and have been tried on indoors only. Before wearing them outdoors, check the following 5 points indoors.

1. Does the heel lift?

Take a few steps on the spot and check whether your heel lifts out of the shoe. If it does, the size may be too large.

2. Is there about 1cm of room at the toes?

Standing up, the guide is around 1cm of room between the tip of your longest toe and the end of the shoe.

3. Is there strong pressure on the instep or across the width?

A snug fit is fine, but pressure that causes pain is a sign of the wrong size.

4. Walk indoors for about 5 minutes

Elevator shoes take some getting used to because of the heel angle. Walk for a few minutes and see whether the unfamiliar feeling eases.

5. Match the sock thickness

Try them on with the socks you actually plan to wear with them. The fit changes between thin and thick socks.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. If I am torn between 2 sizes, which should I choose?

Choose the one that leaves about 1cm of room at the toes. If they are close enough that you cannot decide, the larger one is the safer choice. Check the fit indoors once your order arrives, and if it does not fit, you can exchange the size once (the customer pays the return shipping).

Q. I plan to wear thick socks. Should I go up a size?

If you regularly wear thick winter socks, one size up is an option. The surest approach is to start with your usual size and try them on indoors with the socks you will actually wear.

Q. Is the fit different from sneakers by international brands?

Compared with major brands such as Nike, New Balance and Adidas, there is no significant difference in fit. Use the size you usually wear in those brands as your guide, and check the fit indoors once your order arrives.

Summary

For LEVANO elevator shoes, the same size as the sneakers you usually wear is the guide.

If you have wide feet or a high instep, go one size up; if you are torn between 2 sizes, choose the one that leaves about 1cm of room at the toes.

Once your order arrives, check indoors for heel lift, room at the toes, instep pressure, a few minutes of walking, and sock thickness.

If they do not fit, you can exchange the size once, provided it is within 7 days of delivery, the shoes are unused and have been tried on indoors only, and the packing slip is included (the customer pays the return shipping).
